Terms of use.
The short version: NotesPilot is yours to use for your own meetings. Tell people when you're taking notes, follow the recording laws where you are, and check important notes before you rely on them.

Agreeing to these terms
By downloading, installing or using NotesPilot ("the app"), you agree to these terms and to our Privacy policy. If you use NotesPilot for an organization, you agree on its behalf and confirm you're allowed to. If you don't agree, don't use the app.
Your licence
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use NotesPilot on Macs you own or control. You may not sell, rent or redistribute the app, remove its notices, or reverse engineer it except where the law allows that regardless of this term. Open-source parts of NotesPilot are covered by their own licences, listed in the app.
Recording and consent
NotesPilot records and transcribes conversations. Laws about recording differ by country and state, and many require the consent of everyone in the conversation. You are responsible for telling the people you meet with that you're taking notes, getting their consent where the law requires it, and following your employer's policies. NotesPilot can remind you or ask before every recording (Settings › Meetings › Recording consent), but it can't do this for you.
If you turn on voice memory, some places also require people's consent before a description of their voice is stored. Don't turn it on for people who haven't agreed where that's required.
Your content
Your recordings, transcripts, notes and summaries belong to you. They're stored on your Mac, and we don't have access to them. You're responsible for keeping backups of anything you can't afford to lose; NotesPilot's Backup feature helps, but it isn't a guarantee.
Cloud services you connect
If you add your own key for a service such as AssemblyAI, Deepgram, ElevenLabs, OpenAI or Anthropic, your use of that service is between you and its provider, under its terms and prices. We aren't responsible for those services, their availability, or what they charge you.
AI can be wrong
Transcripts, summaries, action items, speaker names and answers are produced automatically, and they can be incomplete or wrong. Check anything important, especially decisions, figures, names and commitments, before you act on it or share it. Don't rely on NotesPilot as your only record for legal, medical, financial or safety-critical matters.
Acceptable use
Don't use NotesPilot to record people secretly where that's illegal, to harass or surveil anyone, to break any law, or to interfere with the app, its updates or this website.
Updates
NotesPilot checks for updates and installs them when you quit, never during a recording. Updates may add, change or remove features. We may stop developing the app at any time; the version you have keeps working on your Mac.
No warranty
NotesPilot is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise it will be error-free, that every word will be captured, or that every recording will succeed.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost data, recordings, profits or business, arising from your use of NotesPilot. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim, or US$50 if you paid nothing. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you, and nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer that can't be waived.
Ending
You can stop using NotesPilot at any time by deleting it. If you break these terms, your licence ends and you must stop using the app.
Changes
We may update these terms. We'll change the date above, and for significant changes we'll mention them in the release notes. Using NotesPilot after a change means you accept the new terms.
